Take Action July 20 for Clean Energy Now

Rabbi Arthur Waskow

Tuesday, July 20 is Tisha b’Av and also the 3-month anniversary of the start of the BP disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, but Congress hasn’t even voted on legislation to end our addiction to oil.  In the meantime, Big Oil continues to hand out millions in campaign donations to Congress. In short, Congress has been caught with oil on their hands.

Join us at high noon on July 20 in Upper Senate Park, Constitution and New Jersey Avenues, on Capitol Hill to demand:

  • Dirty Energy Money Out of Politics!
  • Pass Climate Legislation That Reduces Carbon and Promotes Clean Energy!

Actions around the country will take place on this date. Some participants will hold up hands covered with simulated oil as speakers articulate why we are taking action. Following the D.C. rally, delegations will go to the offices of the top five Senators and Congresspeople as far as BP campaign donations, calling upon them to return that money to groups like the Gulf Coast Fund and to refuse any further oil industry contributions.

While the U.S. Senate talks about energy policy, let’s take action for what people and the planet need!

There will be a strong Jewish and multireligious component  to the program. (See program description below.)  So  I hope there will be a strong Jewish and multireligious turnout.
