Welcoming the Stranger: Passover & the Dominican Republic Citizenship Crisis

April 4 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

As we approach Passover and think about what it means to be treated as a stranger, Rabbi Peter Rigler and Rabbi Annie Lewis will reflect on their recent travels to the Dominican Republic as part of the American Jewish World Service (AJWS) Global Justice Fellowship. They’ll talk about meeting the LGBT people, women and girls who are empowered by AJWS grantees to rise above discrimination and fight for their rights. They’ll share their encounters with people devastated by an ongoing crisis that has stripped hundreds of thousands of people—mostly Dominicans of Haitian descent—of their citizenship. And they’ll share what we can do to stand up for all who feel at risk in their own countries.

This event is sponsored by the Philadelphia Ambassador Circle for AJWS and Beth David Reform Congregation in Gladwyne. All members of the community are welcome. There is no cost to attend, but you are asked to sign up at bit.ly/2mq39M8. Light refreshments will be served.

Come and be inspired by those who are struggling for the freedom to live in safety and dignity.
