On a cold, snowy Christmas Eve in Norway in 1942, 10-year-old Gerda, an imaginative and headstrong young girl, and her older brother, Otto, prepare for the holiday. Following the arrest of their parents, they discover that their mother and father have been working for the Norwegian resistance and hiding two Jewish children, Sarah and Daniel, in their home. Precocious and brave, Gerda takes control of the situation. She decides that with the Nazis fast approaching, the safest path to take is the one that will lead the children to neutral Sweden.
THE CROSSING demonstrates that children, like adults, have the power to shape their world and make it better. Courage can be summoned at any age – all of us have the capacity to make a difference.
