MY HERO BROTHER, which took two years to organize, originated with the Israeli entrepreneur and filmmaker Enosh Cassel. In 2011, upon returning from a three-week backpacking adventure through the Himalayas with Hannan, his Down syndrome brother, Enosh received correspondence from siblings all over Israel expressing a desire to bond with their own special needs brother or sister on a similar journey. Moved by the overwhelming response to his trip, Enosh resolved to make his life-changing experience possible for other families.
Two years later, eleven remarkable young people with Down syndrome and their siblings flew to New Delhi, India, to begin an arduous two-month journey through the Indian Himalayas. In climbing 25,000 feet to the top of the mountain, some participants are pushed to their physical and emotional limits. Learning to lean on each other for strength, the brothers and sisters confront deeply buried truths about their relationships and share with the camera some of the hardships they’ve faced along the way.
Set in the visually stunning Indian Himalayas, this tender and inspirational documentary deepens our understanding of the special needs community, while avowing our vast potential for personal transformation and resilience.
